2021 Hot Takes

By definition a "Hot Take" is as follows:

a piece of commentary, typically produced quickly in response to a recent event, whose primary purpose is to attract attention.

By our standards in Fantasy Football, a hot take is defined as the following:

Something bold and most likely unlikely to happen, so when it doesn't happen, please refrain from calling us idiots. As we are well aware of the fact that we are indeed overly zealous for fantasy football, and most likely will get all of these forthcoming hot takes wrong.

Just wanted to give you the yearly reminder that we tried thinking of predictions that have a 10-20% chance of happening, yet, we wouldn't be surprised to see them come to pass over the next few months. So without further ado we present:

The 2021 Hottest of Takes

Real NFL Season

  • 5 Receivers from the 2020 Class top 1000 yards in 2021 (Reagan)

I don't think people realize how crazy of a class last year's was. Truly, this take while bold, might not even be that farfetched. I'd put locks in for Justin Jefferson, CeeDee Lamb, and Brandon Aiyuk. With Chase Claypool, Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs III, and Michael Pittman Jr. all having decent if not really good chances of going for 1000, especially given the 17 game schedule.

  • Saints Have two Quarterbacks throw for 1,500 yards (Reagan)

Whether it be from injury, poor play halfway through the season, or the poor decision to run a 2QB system by head coach Sean Payton. I would not be surprised to see both Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill both hit 1,500 yards through the air this year.

  • Deshaun Watson gets into a fistfight during halftime of the Texans 11th straight loss, with Texans owner Janice McNair in the pressbox after their refusal to trade him (Reagan)

You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.

  • Cole Beasley somehow escapes the Covid list (Zack)

With sheer willpower he will thwart of the attacks of Covid-19.

  • Darrell Henderson will finish as a top 12 Running Back (Zack)

I'd imagine the line of reasoning is that he will get 250+ Touches on what should be an explosive offense. My personal concern is that he's never handled more than 5 games of workhorse touches, but theoretically, it could happen.

  • Ke'Shawn Vaughn finishes the fantasy year on the waiver wire (Zack)

Woof

  • Cam Newton starts every game and throws 20 touchdowns (Heery)

This is funny for two reasons...

1. Imagine Patriots head coach Bill Belicheck sitting Mac Jones all year after selecting his first, first-round Quarterback.

2. Heery went out on that limb and somehow Cam got the start over Mac and could only average 1 touchdown pass per game which might be even more indicative of Mac.

  • Aaron Rodgers finishes as the QB1 (Zack)

All signs point to Rodgers leaving Green Bay following this year, so why wouldn't he and his arrogant self go out with a career best year, and a middle finger to the poorly-managed Green Bay organization?

  • Tyler Boyd is the #1 Receiver on the Bengals (Heery)

According to most fantasy sites, he is considered to be the WR3, but given quarterback Joe Burrow's love for slot receivers, I can actually see this being in the realm of possibility.

Threat Level Midnight Hot Takes

  • John has no Top-24 backs on his roster (Reagan)

It isn't look pretty for John, and I can't imagine Bryce is too worried about this year's rivalries.

  • Zeke has two top position Players (Heery)

Derrick Henry, Kyler Murray, and Calvin Ridley could all make a case for the top player at their position. The hottest part of this take is that Zeke keeps Kyler instead of trading for an Alabama quarterback by midseason.

  • Corey will finish 5th, and lose to Zack in the championship by 30 (Heery)

There is so much going on in this take that it's hard to break down. Corey being in 5th isn't the hottest part and Zack being in the championship isn't wild. But maybe it's all of this thrown together with such confidence in each small detail to make it a hot take.

  • Jordan wins 2 games, and finishes with the leagues worst record of all time (one more loss since there is one more game) (Zack)

The roster is bad, like, we made fun of Heery a lot last year, and Zack too. But man, this might somehow top it, or bottom it. depends on how you look at it.

  • Bryce finishes 3rd, and loses in the first round (Heery)

Tragic, truly tragic.

  • One of the three teams to have never made a top 3 finish, gets one this year: Reagan, Corey, John... Well, not John, his team sucks) (Zack)

Basically Zack is betting on myself (Reagan) or Corey finishing top 3. If you look above to his previous hot take where Corey finishes 5th, we see where Zack thinks I will finish...

  • Zack never starts a 4WR lineup (Reagan)

He has a ton of great WRs. But I think Saquon Barkley, Antonio Gibson, Najee Harris, and a sprinkle of Henderson will sway him each week from playing an all-WR flex group in his lineup.

  • CMC scores 25% of David's total points (Reagan)

I mean, Christian McCaffrey could feasibly drop 400 this year, and 1600 would put him in the middle of the pack. And his team is about as deep as a puddle. You do the math.

  • Heery's only wins are against Playoff teams (Heery)

With a strategic level of tanking not yet seen, Heery allows all his opponents vying for the #1 pick to beat him, while he squeaks out a couple upsets to make himself feel better

  • Carmody doesn't own all 3 Chiefs players by years end (Reagan)

One or multiple of Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Patrick Mahomes, or Tyreek Hill will be traded. Mark my words.

  • Tom starts 0-4, and re-evaluates due to his really good lineup, selling Akers (to Heery) for another WR to help boost him back into contention (Heery)

Tehe.

  • AB and David both finish under .500 for the first time in the leagues history (Zack)

Oh how the mighty have begun their fall, a bit later than we anticipated, but better late than never.

  • Heery finishes 8th, after his win against AB in week 1 (Zack)

Securing the 5th pick, which, in turn, ruins the beginning of a bright rebuild.

My Laptop is broken, so I had to go to the public library to write this. Which sucks for two reasons:

1) The people at this library give me heavy mental institute patient vibes (think Shutter Island)

2) I'l probably have to do this until I get a new laptop

Please bear with me in my time of crisis and need. And stop pestering me about the articles.

I seriously need to get out of this library
